Habla Espanol?

I’ve added a Translation Tool to the site whereby the technical terms and links will all be switched into Spanish. The actual content of the messages and their titles will remain in English and that will remain the official board language however for some it might be helpful to have the technical terms written in their native tongue throughout the message board and gallery.

At the moment the switch is at the bottom left of the board but I’ll be moving it up near the top soon.

Pass in Review Shirts

I’ve finally finished the design of the main Pass in Review Online T-shirt!

You can check them out and buy them here:

http://www.cafepress.com/passinreview

There are two versions of the shirt to choose between, a white one and an ashen grey one. They each look pretty spiffy!

I guess you could call the main image "Garrison on Speed"

LOGO

I redid the logo above a bit to make it a tad smaller and to change the sub title to something a bit more fun. I went to a “careers in advertising” seminar last night that had me making up new slogans for all sorts of things all evening.

PENCIL

“Sounds great when it snaps.”

etc etc

odds and ends

I’ve added a scrolling wheel that shows all the pics that have been added to the “Guestmap” on the left. Also I’ve renamed it the “Guestmap” as essentially its a map-based guestbook. Also, people can understand what a guestbook is better than a “forum map” which doesn’t sound terribly compelling.

I’ve also moved some links to the left to reduce the need for scrolling up and down to see things. Also, this makes the front page more symetrical IMHO.

I’ve also added the fun little effect you see when you scroll over the “Feature” links. I stumbled over that completely by mistake! Looks cool though.

Let me know what you think of some of these additions?

What else do you want to see?

Library / Speed-Up

I’ve added a link on the right hand side of the front page to Culver.org’s virtual campus tour, which is pretty neat, though it does skew towards the Winter School crowd. Enjoy! I’ve added a Library section to the right hand side as well, which will feature notworthy Culver or camp-related books that i spot online. If anyone ever has a suggestion for something to feature there I’m all ears! Just post it in this thread. I’ve also just streamlined the text in the registration page and Code of Conduct for easier reading and reduced the number of things people need to fill in when registering to make that easier. I’ve also removed the links from the right hand side on every page except for the front page. Hope that helps speed things up for people on dial-up!

Google Search too!

FYI Today I also added a google search to the site for your convenience, spiffed up some little details here and there you’d probably never notice, and added “Culver News” to the link bar up above.

If you can ever think of anything else to add to here let me know.

Guestmap

Seeing as how we’re all so spread out around the world on here I thought it might be fun to set up our own Culver "Frappr."

You can see it http://www.frappr.com/passinreviewonline

Its an online interactive map in a google like interface. You can also post all the culver pictures you want there!

Up to the right you’ll now see a link for "Forum Map." Click on it, create an entry, tell the system your zip code and you’ll show up on the map. Eventually we’ll be able to see where everyone’s posting from. Yet another fun feature for the site.

This is how we’re looking so far:

Enjoy!

Ads up on site

I’m always making changes to the site to try and make it a better service and community for all of us. From now on when I make some changes I’ll list them here for those of you that are interested.

You may notice some ads running along side the site for the next few days. Here’s the deal, if the site can support itself with minimal distraction from ads, then I’d like to do that. So we’re going to try them for a few days.

Let me know what you think about them via PM. You’ll notice sometimes the ads are for summer camps. Obviously this isn’t ideal considering what this site is all about, so I’m slowly tweaking the ad content that will run alongside the shack pages to make sure they’re advertising stuff you’re all more interested in. Give it a few days.

If it looks like I’m going to earn about 1 dollar a year off of the ads then we’ll lose them no questions asked. If it looks like we’ll break even they might stick around in some form.

front page redesign

Have done some significant re-designing of the front page and also added some more color to the logo’s. What do you guys think? Which version works better and is more fun to use, the design of the front page or the more sprawling look that main guard and the shack have?

Also, I’ve moved the links to the guestmap and the gallery down into the front page as if they were links to other forums. It looks sleeker to me.
