Greetin’s and Woodcraft Summer Camp 75th Anniversary Book

(editor’s note: Go Culver.com welcomes a new voice to the blog, Mr. Jeff Kenney, the Programming and Technology Coordinator at the Culver-Union Twp. Public Library in Culver, IN. jkenney will be contributing regular blog posts drawing from the library’s resources and dropping by the forums now and again.)

Part of my job as (among other things) unofficial “archivist” at the Culver-Union Twp. Public Library has been gathering and digitizing tons of Culver-related memorabilia. Some of you have probably found your way to the library’s history site, which has thousands of images and full-text writings about Culver history, both summer and winter school, and relating to the town, the lake, etc….fun stuff!

Mr. Flora kindly invited me to become a part of the community here at goculver.com, which is a fantastic site that’s inspired me to work on making the library’s site (which I edit and maintain) more interactive. So, I’ll be posting here from time to time with the occasional old picture, anecdote, link, news item, etc.

If any of you out there have Culver-related historical material you’d be willing to share (just a loan for digitization, or digitize yourself), I’d be thrilled to hear from you — just get in touch via PM or by way of the library’s website…please! We can share what we have, and of course if there’s anything you’d like me to help you find or research, that’s part of my job too.

Woodcraft 75th Anniversary History Book cover imageSo, today’s offering:

The Woodcraft Camp 75th Anniversary history book by Maj. Dick Zimmerman.

One of my happy “finds” from last summer, this book was loaned to us very kindly by Maj. Zimmerman himself, who’s been involved with the camp for over 50 years now, and has been heading up the Council Fire program for several of those years. It’s a fascinating and photo-filled journey through the early and developing years of the summer school program at Culver, and includes fascinating background on many of my favorite places and traditions of the summer school.

There’s lots more on the website, and more to come, so stay tuned!
