Culver Summer Camps Relics to be Unveiled at Online Reunion

As part of the festivities taking place on the board tomorrow night (click here to learn more) we’ll be unveiling some really tremendous vintage Culver documents that have recently come into my possession.  I don’t want to spill too many beans before I go live with them but let me say that a certain someone has been winning some Ebay auctions recently…one of these is a real screamer that you’ll all love…

Looking forward to tomorrow night!

RSVP for the reunion here. Think of some ideas for what we can talk about too!

Culver Indiana Hotels feat. Aquaman: Bed and Breakfast

With summer 2006 quickly approaching, what better time for a round-up of Culver Hotel accomodations for parents and alumni visiting Culver Academy than now? This week we’ll be glancing through the surprisingly extensive Culver Indiana hotel scene, tossing in some pictures and blurbs about the many options out there along the way. After you’re done reading these you can check out the Culverpedia entry on Culver Indiana Hotels and can chime in with feedback in the new discussion thread over in the forums.

Because I’m not really an expert of any kind when it comes to writing about the hospitality industry, I thought it might be a good idea to bring in someone who knows his stuff when it comes to this sort of thing. So throughout this article and the ones that follow you’ll also be hearing comments and opinions from a Go Culver.com guest writer, the Lord of Atlantis himself, Aquaman!

Aquaman, a frequent visitor to the Lake Maxinkuckee region, has stayed in his share of fishy places over the years. So when I told him about this article series, he practically jumped at the chance to help out. Thanks Aquaman!

Ok, lets get started. …Read the rest of this entry…

Attending Homecoming Weekend 2006?

Planning on visiting Culver this summer for Homecoming?

If so, post a “yep, I’ll be there” in my new Homecoming 2006 thread over in the alumni forum.

You can take a look at the event schedule here.

Anyone live nearby and willing to put people up?

Anyone driving in from out of town and able to give people a ride?

If we can help people find places to stay and ways to get to campus that’d be delightful.

New Culver, Indiana Area Guide/ Camp Counselor’s Guide to Maximizing Down Time

I thought it might be fun to add a section to the Culverpedia with information on the various restaurants, hotels, and fun things to do in the Culver area. You’ll spot several links to it up in the camper, alumni, parent, and staff pages or you can just jump straight to the link for the three sections. Check it out and feel free to contribute your own thoughts on the items listed or perhaps even add your own. For instance, Renfro’s should be added to the restaurant guide, but I can’t find their info online.

Also, I started up a page in the Culverpedia called the “Counselor’s Guide to Maximizing Your Down Time” where staff and other visitors can compile together ideas for things to do during off moments or time during camp. If you know of any day trips or have anything you particularly enjoy/enjoyed doing during the summer, add ‘er on there.

Better Bed Making

One of the goals I have for this website is for it to help all members of the Culver family, alumni, parents, and students, get the most out of their Culver experience. In keeping with this thinking, for the campers in the audience I thought it might be fun to start working on a collection of links relevant to the many tasks they encounter at camp on a daily basis. Consider this the first in a series of posts (hopefully without end) in which I’ll be pointing you towards resources that just might make camp a little more fun than it already is. …Read the rest of this entry…

Culverpedia Rank Guide Upgraded

Ever tried explaining the Upper Camp military system to a friend who doesn’t know Culver?

It’s tough, no? You have to describe to them what an FPO does, a CO, and the OD; the Batt. Comm. You try to illuminate how an 05 reports to an 06 and that E4 is the great hope of every thirdclassman. You attempt to outline for them how regimental staff works and what the Deputy Commanders do…and all the while your friend starts feeling sorrier and sorrier he ever asked you to begin with.

And then you come to a position or rank, perhaps a paygrade that you don’t remember so well, causing a hesitation in your flow as you try to remember what the heck the Unit XO actually does and…BAM! your friend pounces on the opening to change the subject. End of discussion, probably forever since he’s not going to want to hear you drone on about it again.

Well GoCulver.com has just the thing to jog your memory about all things rank-related at camp, to sweep out all the cobwebs in your skull and make sure that YOU never hesistate again on a Rank and Military Fact.

I present: the new and improved Culverpedia Rank Entry!

I put a little time into beefing it up over the weekend. Let’s get some more manpower in there to flesh out the rank position entries this week. Remember, as long as you’re logged in to the forums you can edit and create your own entries in the Culverpedia. NO MORE PAUSES.
