Position Breakdown

Throughout the six-week upper camp program each summer, counselors issue a "make" roster which gives military positions to the students in their unit. There are 4 tryout makes, each 1 week long starting on the first day of camp followed by "final" make" which lasts throughout the final two weeks of camp.

Regimental Positions

  • Gone but not forgotten: Aid To The Superintendant-LT. SG
This was basically a courtesy rank extended to the 1st Classman
who best exemplified the "brownnose" qualities.

Hierarchy

The Upper Camp Rank system is designed for clarity. Ideally every student will know who they report to, directly and indirectly, and who reports to them. This is determined by paygrade (see below).

Therefore all students with E-4 paygrade ranks report to all students with ranks of paygrade E-5 and above.

Paygrade

Each military position has a "paygrade" associated with it. These paygrades are often mistakenly confused as the positions "rank" and are better known by your average camper than the actual rank of the position they might hold. The charts below connect paygrades to their corresponding ranks, which differ among the branches of upper camp due to them being based upon different United States Military Branches.
